Residents and employees are invited to donate used glasses (prescription glasses, readers or sunglasses) to help those in need. This program helps serve more than one billion people globally who cannot afford or do not have access to eyewear. Donated glasses will be refurbished, cleaned, and labeled to benefit those in need.

Garden Play Project Build Day

Description:

This was a community effort to build a playspace in Kemah, which was affected by Hurricane Ike. The center offers an outdoor classroom, community garden, and playground, and services children 5-12 years of age. Volunteers helped build, paint, and plant trees.

Volunteers packed decorative tins for sale by Gingersnaps, Etc., supporting the Center Serving Persons with Mental Retardation. They developed the Gingersnaps program in 1998 as a fundraising effort. Since that time, the volunteer-driven effort has raised over $1million to help developmentally challenged adults in the Houston area.

AMLI volunteers participated in the Arthritis Walk®, raising funds and awareness to fight arthritis, the nation’s leading cause of disability. AMLI participants raised $505. The event featured a three-mile walk, with arthritis information and activities for the entire family.

National Wear Red Day

On February 8th participating AMLI employees made a $5 donation to the American Heart Association in exchange for the opportunity to wear red and jeans to work. All AMLI residents were invited to take part in the fight against heart disease on February 14th and through the end of the month by visiting the leasing office to drop off any donations payable to the American Heart Association.
