The New Year kicks off in less than a week. Do you know how you’ll wrap up 2016 and ring in 2017? If you’re in Houston and want to celebrate in style, the following Bayou City venues are hosting some promising New Year’s parties.
If elegant, black-tie affair is your preferred December 31 celebration environment, snag tickets to the 2017 New Year’s Affair: Downtown Countdown. The countdown kicks off at 8pm in Houston’s largest and one of its grandest ballrooms. Formal wear is a must. Hors d’oeuvres, champagne, and classy entertainment will all be on offer. Tickets start at 0, and The Ballroom at Bayou Place is a 5-minute cab ride from AMLI Memorial Heights.
For blues’ aficionados seeking a more low-key New Year’s celebration, The Big Easy is a great option. Ring in the new year listening to impressive jazz music, shooting pool, and drinking your cocktail of choice. Houston local and legendary blues guitarist Alan Haynes will play into the final minutes of 2016. And the cover charge is just 0.
For an even cheaper admission price (read: free), head on over to The Continental Club for renditions of your favorite 1950s and 1960s classics. For the venue’s 17th annual no-cover New Year’s Eve Bash, The Allen Oldies Band will perform. The Continental Club is a 10-minute ride from AMLI River Oaks apartments near midtown Houston.
Also a ten-minute drive from AMLI River Oaks, the luxurious boutique Hotel ZaZa is hosting a highly anticipated New Year’s party. At 5 to 25, the event is on the pricier side. Included in the ticket price, however, is a four- or five-course meal, hors d’oeuvres, and skillfully mixed music from a talented DJ. If you’re looking to spend the night away from your apartment, the hotel has room + event combo rates from 95.
Like Hotel ZaZa, The Houstonian Hotel is a good choice for couples and small groups looking to wine and dine their way into the New Year. The event kicks off with a three-course dinner, proceeds to the Houstonian’s Forest Ballroom for live jazz, dancing, drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and a midnight champagne toast. Stay overnight, and you’ll enjoy a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine, New Year’s Day brunch, and a 2pm late checkout.
Memorial City Mall
From 11am to 12:30pm, Memorial City Mall will be a family-friendly hub of arts, crafts, treats, and live music. At noon, a lemonade toast will be timed to a special balloon drop to celebrate the new year. Starting at 9:30pm, live music and coverage of New Year’s festivities around the world will take over The Square. The Times Square ball drop will be screened at midnight, and a champagne toast will herald the New Year.
There are several places in Midtown Houston where you can choose to ring in the New Year. Three area clubs have teamed up to throw a joint party with hors d’oeuvres, champagne, and dance music. Midtown NYE 2017 Festival will be hosted by Pub Fiction, Irish Cowboy, and 3rd Floor, all located off a one-block stretch of Hadley bound by Louisiana and Smith. This part of midtown is a 5-minute cab ride from AMLI City Vista and AMLI River Oaks, or a pleasant 30-minute walk if you’re up for it. Be aware—a dress code will be strictly enforced. Contact the event promoters for more details.
Another swanky celebration option is the Omni Houston’s New Year’s Eve celebration package. It includes a luxurious room for the night with late checkout, two tickets to the Black Swan New Year’s Event at which DJ Damon Pampolina will be mixing beats, and a champagne toast at midnight. The Omni Houston Hotel is a 5-minute drive from AMLI Uptown.
