5 Best Places for Ice Skating in Dallas

by
Jan 2nd, 2017

For a city that receives relatively little ice or snow, Dallas has a ton of great ice skating options. If you didn’t find the time to skate before or during the holidays, but wish to get some time on the ice this season, here is a list of the DFW metro’s best ice skating rinks. All venues on this list are family-friendly, and many are open for business year-round.

Allen Community Ice Rink

Allen Community Ice Rink is a multipurpose facility used for just about every sport played on ice. The rink also hosts open skate and freestyle skating sessions for the general public. If you’re looking for a place for your kids to learn to skate, figure skate, or play ice hockey, the rink runs several community programs throughout the year. The rink also hosts an immersive skating holiday camp. Allen Community Ice Rink is a 15-minute drive from AMLI Galatyn Station and AMLI’s Frisco apartments.

Dr. Pepper StarCenter

There are now seven Dr. Pepper StarCenters in the DFW metro area, six of which are open to the public. If you’ve never skated on ice before and it’s something you’re looking to get into, check out the Dallas Stars Try Skating for Free program. It’s a four-week program, open to participants of all ages, that rotates from rink to rink around the DFW area. Check the schedule for further details.

Galleria Dallas Ice Skating Center

Located amidst dozens of trendy retail stores and restaurants, Galleria Ice Skating Center is the only place in Dallas we know where you can shop and skate in style. Holiday season skating has come and gone for the season, but the 95-foot tree Macy’s lights up every year is a hit among ice skaters. Ice skating lessons and open ice sessions take place at Galleria Dallas year-round. This popular Dallas ice rink is just a few minutes further from AMLI’s Frisco and Las Colinas apartments.

NYTEX Sports Centre

Home to the Lone Star Brahmas and Texas Jr. Brahmas, NYTEX Sports Centre is one of DFW’s busiest ice skating rinks. Public skate sessions are held Friday evenings, and almost every weekday at lunchtime. NYTEX also runs a skating academy and a children’s summer camp. This North Richland Hills ice skating rink is a 25-minute drive from AMLI at Escena.

Panther Island Ice

Want to skate outdoors? Get to Panther Island Ice between now and January 16, 2017. The seasonal rink is located at Panther Island Pavilion in Fort Worth, roughly a half-hour drive from AMLI’s Irving apartments. The rink is open until 10 or 11 p.m. every night except for New Year’s Eve, when it closes at 8 p.m.
