Miramar’s Parks and Recreation Department maintains and operates more than 40 parks designated for public use. A handful of these are large parks with playing fields and other recreational facilities. Many of them are smaller, neighborhood parks with playgrounds and picnic areas. To familiarize yourself with the Miramar parks system, read about some of the department’s points of pride and highlights below.
Ansin Sports Complex
Ansin Sports Complex is clean, beautiful, and impressive. The 24-acre complex contains a well-maintained track, stadium with capacity for 5,000 spectators, and multiple playing fields and courts for basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, and football. In 2015, a state-of-the-art fitness center opened on the Ansin Sports Complex grounds. Highlights include treadmills, free weights, and cutting-edge weight training equipment. The southern edge of the sprawling complex is just five minutes’ walk from the luxury apartments at AMLI Miramar Park.
Miramar Regional Aquatic Complex
Resembling a free water park, this jewel of the Miramar Parks and Recreation Department is home to an ADA-accessible Olympic-sized swimming pool and water park playground. The pool contains a 12-foot deep diving well with two meter-high boards, and is heated for year-round enjoyment. Swim classes are available in English and in Spanish.
Forzano Park
Forzano Park, just a five-minute drive from AMLI Miramar Park, is one of Mirarmar’s highest-rated parks. The ADA-accessible green space is home to soccer fields, six beach volleyball courts, a football field, playground, and concessions stand. It’s a popular place for youth sport league play.
Miramar Pineland Park
Voted best regional park in 2015, Miramar Pineland Park is essentially a regional park, nature preserve, and nature center all rolled into one. There’s a large, covered playground and interactive splash pad for young children to enjoy. But most of the park’s 157 acres are more concerned with maintaining a habit amenable to natural flora and fauna than creating space for sports play. Nature trails meander through scrubby flatwoods, restored wetlands, prairies, and pine forest. Animals you might spot along the Pineland Trail or Wetland Trail and Boardwalk include green tree frogs, eastern glass lizards, soldier butterflies, great blue heron, and red-tailed hawks. Pineland Park is a seven-minute drive from AMLI Miramar Park, and is fully equipped with WiFi connectivity.
Miramar Regional Park
Miramar Regional Park is a haven for sports play and fun with friends and family. Its 173-acre grounds have courts and fields for baseball, softball, cricket, soccer, football, and volleyball. Barbecue pits are available for public use. A corporate pavilion is available for rent. An art exhibition area can accommodate short-term art installations. And a long-anticipated amphitheater is finally in the works. When completed later this year, the open-air venue will host live concerts, theatre performances, and other productions. The amphitheater’s seating capacity is expected to be 5,000.
River Run Park
At off-peak hours, River Run Park is a tranquil place to soak up the great outdoors. In evenings and on weekends, the atmosphere can be more lively as groups celebrate birthdays and other special occasions in the park’s pavilion, gazebo, and picnic area. River Run, a straight shot down Miramar Blvd., also has a well-maintained outdoor fitness track.
Silver Shores Park
The relatively small Silver Shores Park is a favorite among volleyball enthusiasts living in Miramar and Fort Lauderdale apartments. The park is known for being remarkably clean, and for having well-maintained sand volleyball courts, soccer fields, basketball courts, and soon-to-be-resurfaced tennis courts. Silver Shores Park is a 10-minute drive from AMLI Miramar Park.
Vizcaya Park
Vizcaya Park is unique primarily because it contains a 7,600 square foot community center. The community center has a computer lab with computers, game room, and multipurpose room. All are available for rent. Outside the community center, you’ll find 20 acres of basketball courts, football and soccer fields, a playground, children’s splash pads, and picnic shelters. Vizcaya Park is just over a 10-minute drive from AMLI Miramar Park.
