Five Places to Grab a Beer Before a Rockies Game

by
Oct 19th, 2015

In an age when the names of professional sports stadiums and arenas are as fickle as team rosters, it’s a wonder that Coors Field has retained the same name since opening in 1995. In the spirit of the stadium’s name, Coors brew and beer from other breweries are available at the ballpark and at brewpubs and sports bars nearby.

Enjoy a beer or two with friends before a game’s opening pitch at these great places in downtown Denver before a Rockies game.

Fado Irish Pub

Less than a mile from AMLI Riverfront Park and right across the street from Coors Field, Fado Irish Pub is a great place to grab a beer and some grub before a Rockies game. Local bands often play in the lively space, the food is impressive, and the beer and whiskey selections will satisfy most tastes.

Falling Rock Tap House

With more than 80 beers on tap and hundreds more on its menu, Falling Rock is a true tap house. Its brick-and-wood design makes patrons feel at home immediately, and the sheer size of the place means there’s almost always room for you and a couple of friends. If you’re the type who gets restless sitting a the bar drinking with friends, up the ante with a game of pool or darts. This Blake Street haunt is just a manageable half-mile walk from the AMLI Riverfront Park apartments near Coors Field.

Denver Sports Column

If you’re a deal seeker, Denver Sports Column should definitely be on your radar. Happy hour is from 3:3o to 6:30PM on weekdays, and from 10PM to 1AM every day. Drop by after a Thursday night game, and enjoy wells, calls, and drafts for a piece. This quintessential neighborhood bar is next door to Falling Rock, a short walk or affordable Uber ride from AMLI Riverfront Park.

Wynkoop Brewery

Looking to warm up for a Rockies game with a full brewery experience? Wynkoop Brewery, a 15-minute walk from AMLI Riverfront Park, can deliver. The LoDo brewery is a neighborhood fixture, steeped in tradition, and serving up delicious beers brewed in-house. Popular brews currently on tap include Mile High Pale Ale, Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout, Patty’s Chile Beer, and Cowtown Milk Stout.

The Tavern Downtown

Fashioned out of a large Market Street warehouse, The Tavern Downtown is a bustling place before and just about after every Rockies game. If you want a high-energy environment, some of the best sliders in downtown Denver, or the Tavern’s signature cheese-filled pretzel rolls, this is where you should be. Drop by with your ticket to the Rockies game, and take advantage of a game-day buy one, get one free special that applies to all draft beers on tap.

If there were an official craft beer capital, Denver would definitely be a contender. The restaurants, bars, and pubs nearby offer one of the best pre- and post-game drink selections anywhere. If you like beer and you like the Rockies, make every game a reason to celebrate.
