On the face of it, Glendale’s dining scene may be overshadowed by those of nearby wealthy Beverly Hills, star-studded Hollywood, and oceanfront Santa Monica. However, locals and experienced foodies know that this east Los Angeles area is stacked with culinary gems. Here are a few fine dining establishments that can be reached easily from your Glendale apartment.
Fresco Ristorante
Praised for its northern Italian cuisine and excellent wine menu, Fresco Ristorante is just a five-minute drive from AMLI Lex on Orange. In addition to offering an idyllic setting for special occasion dining, Fresco is a great lunch spot and has a reputation for master catering.
Gennaro’s Ristorante
The chef-cum-restaurateur who started this gem of an Italian restaurant may have relocated to San Luis Obispo, but the recipes he spent 20 years cultivating in Glendale haven’t changed since his departure. If you’re in the mood for award-winning Italian cuisine, make the five-minute drive from your Glendale apartments to Grennaro’s Ristorante.
Katsuya
A chic design only makes the superb sushi at Katsuya taste all the better. The next time you’re feeling like being whisked away to Japan for the night, walk a few steps to the Glendale Galleria for some first-rate sushi and sashimi, amazing seaweed, and divine cocktails. Even Tokyo can wait when your Glendale apartments are a seven-minute walk from sushi this good.
Carousel Restaurant
If Middle Eastern fare is a favorite with your friends, then Carousel Restaurant is your place. A no-frill spot that’s hailed by many (including the Kardashians) as some of the best and most authentic Armenian food around, Carousel offers more than 50 appetizers and dozens of entrees. You can expect all the usual suspects (chicken, lamb, falafel, hummus, eggplant and other roasted and well-seasoned veggies), making this a perfect dining choice for carnivores and vegetarians. On Fridays and Saturdays, a live band and dance show entertain the crowd from 9:30 PM to 1:30 AM.
Shiraz
Another excellent Middle Eastern choice, Shiraz Restaurant in Glendale serves up melt-in-your-mouth meat kabobs and veggie dishes alike. Fessanjan, a sweet-and-sour dish blessed with pomegranate seeds and crushed walnuts, and saffron-tomato dominated loobia are two crowd favorites. Shiraz is neither too fancy nor too expensive, but the quality of its food and attentiveness of the service will feel make it feel like a fine dining experience.
