Inside the Wings Over Houston Airshow

by
Oct 15th, 2018

The CFA Wings Over Houston Airshow is an annual community event put on by the volunteer groups of Houston Wing, Gulf Coast Wing and Tora! Tora! Tora! of the Commemorative Air Force. The special event is putting on its 34th show this year and takes place at the Ellington Airport on Saturday, Oct. 20 and Sunday, Oct. 21. The airshow is just a short drive south from several of AMLI’s Houston luxury apartments such as our Allen Parkway apartments, apartments near midtown Houston, Washington Corridor apartments and our Montrose apartments. For every aviation enthusiast, or even those looking to learn more about the technology and engineering of aircraft throughout history, this airshow is not to be missed—it’s one of the best in the U.S. Here’s what’s inside the Wings Over Houston Airshow.

Performances

Both Saturday and Sunday are packed with performances in the skies and on the ground from 8am-3pm. Expect everything from skydivers, vintage planes, specialty jets, Air Force demonstrations, Coast Guard demonstrations and performances by some of the best pilots in the world. The main headliner at the 2018 airshow will be the world-famous U.S. Navy Blue Angels, which will be demonstrating a six-pilot flyover.

Display aircrafts

In addition to all the excitement in the sky, you will see a wide range of civilian and military aircraft on display. There will be over 75 planes on the ground to view, making up one of the largest collections in North America. See vintage and contemporary aircraft, as well as warplanes, helicopters, cargo transports, high-speed jets and everything in between. See how technology has changed and how far engineering has come since the design and build of early-day aircraft. Visit with pilots and crew, ask questions and learn from the best as you browse everything on display.

Attractions

The Wings Over Houston Airshow is packed with special attractions, including a motion simulator where you can experience what it would be like to fly one of the modern jets flown by the likes of the Thunderbirds, Blue Angels and other high-performance planes. Many flight museums will also be on-site displaying various aviation artifacts. See the Warbird ramp displays where you can get up-close to dozens of historic World War II, Korean War and Vietnam-era planes.

Autographs

Meet with war heroes and noble military personnel at the autograph tent. Throughout the event, these living legends will be available to sign autographs and for meet-and-greets. This is your opportunity to speak with war veterans, decorated war-heroes, astronauts and other special guests who have been flying for years and have a lot of aviation experience and knowledge.
