Finding the Best Tex-Mex around River Oaks

by
Jan 31st, 2019

When it comes to finding some of the best Tex-Mex Houston has to offer, there are more than a few hot spots available. These restaurants range from laid back and relaxed, to upscale and unique. By definition, Tex-Mex is the hybrid of American and Mexican dishes, often times adding a flare and flavor to your palate that will keep you coming back for more. Using the main ingredients from Mexican cooking, Tex-Mex includes more emphasis on meat, leaving you with a satisfying experience (especially if you’ve downed a couple of margaritas in the process). So without further ado, here are some of our favorite joints for Tex-Mex.

Teotihuacan Mexican Café

1511 Airline Drive, Houston

With their restaurant on Airline Drive being only 1 of 3 of their locations, this Mexican Café has got all of your favorite fixings under the same roof. From cheesy enchiladas and nachos to parrillados and a wide variety of seafood options, make sure you show up here on an empty stomach! Likewise, Teo’s has got some killer happy hour deals taking place all day on Mondays and Wednesdays, as well as Thursdays and Fridays from 2pm to 6pm. Can’t really go wrong with that, can you?

The Original Ninfa’s on Navigation

2704 Navigation Road, Houston

Known for serving the best Mexican food in Texas since Texas was in Mexico, Ninfa’s has been in business for over 40 years. Most well-known for their fajitas, Ninfa’s also serves up some hot and cheesy options including quesadillas, tacos, tamales and more. Even better? They serve brunch! Ninfa’s takes such pride in treating their customers well, that they will even provide shuttle service to and from all Astros, Rockets and Dynamo games—allowing you to watch your favorite sporting events in peace and providing you the option to grab some grub once you’re done.

Hugo’s

1600 Westheimer Road, Houston

We have a feeling Hugo’s might just become your regular go-to. Serving up unique renditions of Mexican classics, Hugo’s opened in 2002 and has since then taken Houston by storm with their decadent and delicious meal options. Also known for their wide variety of wine, tequila and cocktails, this may just be the place to go once the clock strikes five. During the weekends? Make your way over for their popular Saturday brunch menu, or hit up the Sunday brunch buffet from 10am to 2pm. That’s right, buffet! And at only 5 per person? You can’t go wrong.

Picos Restaurant

3601 Kirby Drive, Houston

An upscale version of what you would normally envision for Tex Mex, Picos Restaurant is located on Kirby Drive and the perfect spot to grab a meal, whether it be to sit down in their restaurant or at the Tamale Stand located in the parking lot, open daily from 10am to 6pm. With Fajita Day each Monday and Tuesday, endless margarita choices and happy hour deals you can’t beat, Picos is calling your name!
