Permanent collections
The permanent collection at the NSU Art Museum highlights a wide range of international artists spanning the current day to far back in the reaches of history. Walk through the largest collection of Cobra art in the country. The Cobra movement was a post-WWII avant-garde collective inspired by interdisciplinary work built from folk, mythic and non-Western traditions. The paintings are colorful, playful and often child-like in their penchant for dreamy, surreal imagery. The museum also boasts the largest collection of work by American painter William Glackens, as well as a vast collection of work done by Latin American, Cuban and mid-20th century New York School artists. Not only are there beautiful works of art inside the museum, but there are also many murals outside on the museum walls.
Exhibitions
There’s always something new to see at the ever-changing art exhibitions. No matter if you are interested in world-class contemporary art or learning about art history, there is sure to be an exhibition for you. Each exhibit is beautifully arranged and very well described so you get the most out of your visit. One of the current exhibitions puts informs their permanent collection of Glackens’ work by pairing pieces with work of prominent impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, one of Glackens’ major influences.
