Most popular & highly-rated bakeries near Downtown Miami & Wynwood
Zak the Baker
Located in Wynwood, Zak the Baker has become something of a Miami institution. This Kosher artisan bakery made Miami care more about bread than any bakery in town ever has, and you can now find their sourdough in nearly every cafe within Miami-Dade County! Even though you can get it practically anywhere, there's a reason locals still make the trip to the original Wynwood location.
The bakery offers a rotating cast of croissants, danishes, cookies, conchas and babka that you won't find in their wholesale accounts. Their highly-praised challah comes out of the oven at noon every Friday, and regulars know to arrive early if they want to snag a loaf.
The bakery operates as part cafe, part commercial bakery, putting diners right in the middle of owner Zak Stern's bustling bready empire. The day's offerings are also seasonal and depend on what's freshly available, making each visit a unique experience depending on the day or month you’re visiting!

While the key lime pie remains the star, don't overlook the apple pie topped with caramelized apples and spicy cinnamon, or the quiches, including a delicious spinach and feta option. All pies can be purchased by the slice or whole, and the shop serves coffee from Panther Coffee to pair with your sweet treats. The success of this former firefighter's second career, as well as the astounding flavors and bakes, has made Fireman Derek's a must-visit destination for both anyone in the Wynwood area!
