Are you ready to revel in the summer festival season?
If you’re looking for fun festivals and summer events to check out in the greater Los Angeles area, you’ve come to the right place. From neighborhood block parties to major international film and music festivals, Southern California plays host to an array of cultural events that are worth checking out.
From L.A.’s happening downtown to the storied theaters of Hollywood, here are a few of our favorite SoCal summer celebrations of art, sun, and fun in the City of Angels.
Playhouse District Block Party
Just a fifteen-minute drive from AMLI Lex on Orange, the Los Angeles Playhouse District block party will be held every Thursday between May 14 and August 27, 2015. It’s a celebration of wine, theater bits, live music, food trucks, cocktails, and more. If the Playhouse District Block Party appeals to you, attend sooner rather than later. You just may find you want to work the event into your weekly summer schedule. The Playhouse District Block Party is hosted by Zona Rosa Caffe and Monopole Wine.
Film Independent’s Los Angeles Film Festival
Recognized as the film capital of the country, La La Land is always abuzz with movies. Several film festivals vie for moviegoers’ attention in the summer, the biggest being the Film Independent’s Los Angeles Film Festival. This year’s festival kicks off June 10 and runs until June 18, 2015. It features more than 200 feature-length films, shorts, and music videos. Some 100,000 Angelinos and visitors are expected to attend. Screenings and interactive events will be held at L.A. Live, LACMA, and Union Station.
Another Los Angeles film festivals to keep an eye out for this summer is the multi-genre Downtown Film Festival from July 22 and July 26, 2015, held at various venues downtown.
Hollywood Fringe Fest
SoCal’s largest performing arts festival is just a few weeks away. Between June 11 and June 28, 2015, the performing arts will take over a multitude of theaters, clubs, parks, and other venues in a massive celebration that give Hollywood its reputation as a hotbed of creativity and all things art. Check out the event schedule, and choose which free-for-all Hollywood Fringe Fest performances interest you. Residents of AMLI Warner Center and AMLI Lex on Orange have easy access to the hundreds of performances that make up the Hollywood Fringe Fest.
L.A. Brewers Beer Week
Step aside, San Diego. Los Angeles County has been bitten by the craft beer bug, and the Seventh annual Brewers L.A. Beer Week will kick off on Saturday June 20, 2015. Dozens of beertastic events will be held at and around Exposition Park, just south of downtown. If you’re already feeling thirsty for the hundreds of beers that will be available, tickets to the kickoff event are already on sale. And if you love your San Diego craft brew, don’t worry. There will be plenty of it at this SoCal summer brew extravaganza.
International Pop Overthrow
Power Pop is the name of the musical genre at the heart of the International Pop Overthrow traveling festival. Coming to Los Angeles from July 24 through August 2, 2015, this year’s event features dozens of the hottest pop bands from around the world. Catch your favorite artists and discover new musicians who might change the way you hear music. Participating venues include El Rey Theater and The Troubadour.
