Celebrate Craft Beer at Houston’s Big Brew DestiNATION

by
Oct 13th, 2014

Bitter, dry-hopped ales. Caramel malted stouts brewed with oatmeal, coffee, and chocolate. Chili-infused beer that will leave your mouth and tongue thirsting for a follow-up round that brings the heat in a less literal fashion.

Houston craft beer lovers, brace yourselves. The inaugural Big Brew DestiNATION event is just a week away!

Craft beer aficionados from around the globe will flock to the Bayou City for access to craft beer made by small, independent brewers who have mastered their craft. If you live in a downtown Houston apartment or elsewhere in the Houston area, access to all this large, hyped-for-a-good-reason event will be at your fingertips.

Celebrating the Craft

Craft beer is aptly named. Brewing good beer is an art. It requires some basic knowledge, a touch of creativity, and the will to experiment. That often means failing a few times before you succeed. Houston’s Big Brew DestiNATION event was created to celebrate this art and its practitioners. From October 20 to October 26, bars, breweries, and restaurants throughout Houston will participate in the event in one way or another.

Over the course of the week, craft beer enthusiasts will have the opportunity to taste more than 1,000 types of golden goodness. Some 200 breweries will be represented, more than 40 of which are based in Texas. A dozen or so local craft breweries will partake. Lagers, ales, porters, and stouts suitable to all beer tastes will be available, and a host of true beer appreciators should foster a very special environment. With breweries from all across the country and world showing off their cold ones, this will be the 2nd largest craft brew oriented event ever to be held.

Kicking Off Big Brew Houston

Starting next Monday, October 20, several breweries and beer-serving establishments will be holding beer tastings, meetups, and other beer-themed events in coordination with the weeklong Big Brew DestiNATION event. At participating brewpubs, you will have the opportunity to enjoy premium craft brews from all over the world. Visit the event website for information on participating breweries and restaurants.

Taking Place At the George R. Brown Convention Center

The George R. Brown Convention Center, located adjacent the Discovery Green in downtown Houston, is where the major events will take place. These include an evening where craft beers will be expertly paired with culinary creations concocted by many of Houston’s most renowned chefs, and two grand tasting sessions. Those interested in early access to the tastings and unlimited food items can purchase VIP tasting passes. Tickets to each event are sold separately and can be purchased online at ExploreHouston.org.

Happening Around the Area

In addition to the numerous affiliated events held throughout town, some highly anticipated events will be held offsite. These include Suds in the pub crawl buses that will visit several of Houston’s watering holes and the 8th Wonder Brewston Brunch, a three-course, hand-crafted brunch with food prepared by Shula’s Steak House’s talented chef. Each course will be paired with a delightful craft brew.

In Houston, as elsewhere, the demand for craft beer is soaring. You are well poised to attend Big Brew DestiNATION events at the George R. Brown Convention center and elsewhere downtown. Check out the various event descriptions and clear your schedule. As this is the first ever craft brew destination event Houston has seen, you have the opportunity to experience history in the making. Live Life + Love Life with a craft beer in your hand. Just remember to arrange a way to get home safely if you plan on to indulge!

More than 10,000 Houstonians are expected to attend the Big Brew DestiNATION event. Will you be one of them? Let us know in the comments!
