In terms of predictably beautiful days and evenings, few cities can beat Denver in the summertime. Local organizations and event planners have caught wind of this, making Denver’s summers jam-packed with cultural festivals, open-air concerts, and other exciting events.
If your summer calendar still has any gaps in it, consider the following activities and events…
Denver Greek Festival
Greek culture and food are enticing to Americans of all backgrounds, and Denver’s thriving Greek community knows how to throw a great party. Appreciate practiced dancers performing in the traditional Hellenic style and enjoy live performances by folk musicians while chowing down on saganaki, spanikopita, baklava, and loukoumathes, and sipping on ouzo or your choice of imported Greek beers and wines. The festival will be held at the Assumption of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Denver on the corner of Leetsdale and Alameda on June 20, 21, and 22. Lucky Stapleton apartment residents can walk to this event.
Westword Music Showcase
Presented in partnership with Coors Light, the Westword Music Showcase packs heaps of talent into Denver’s Golden Triangle to occupy 12 stages for one day of pure sound celebration. The event, which will take place on Saturday, June 21, features more than 150 local artists and international favorites such as 2 Chainz, Diplo, and King Khan & the Shrines. Bonus for those who live in Uptown apartments…you are within walking distance of the festival (such as our AMLI Park Avenue residents!)
2014 Cherry Creek Arts Festival
The Annual Cherry Creek Arts Festival, now in its 14th year, bills itself as “Colorado’s signature cultural celebration of the visual, culinary, and performing arts.” At the festival, up-and-coming local artists are celebrated alongside renowned international visual artists. The culinary side of the festival keeps visitors happy and energized as they watch demonstrations, rock out to live music, or browse through thousands of exceptional artworks for sale. Sticking with its tradition of being held coincidentally with Independence Day celebrations, the 2014 Cherry Creek Arts Festival will be held July 4, 5, and 6 in the Cherry Creek neighborhood.
2014 Summer Brew Festival
Beer lovers, rejoice. Due to its extraordinary popularity over the past several years, Denver’s Summer BrewFest has expanded and is now a two-day event. If your idea of a good weekend involves sampling beers from near and far while you revel in the familiarity of local music and snack on food from your favorite restaurants, then free up your schedule on July 25 and 26. Last we checked, general admission and VIP Power Hour tickets for the Mile High Station event were both still available.
Attend a Concert at Red Rocks
Spectacular, brilliantly colored rock formations with a knack for capturing and reverberating sound make Red Rocks Amphitheater the area’s most sought-after place to play or watch a show. If you have yet to attend a performance at Red Rocks, make this the summer you check it out. With James Taylor, Skrillex, Sarah McLachlan, Blues Traveler, Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden, Chicago, Pretty Lights, Jack Johnson, and Wiz Khalifa all slated to perform, you have a wealth of first-rate shows to choose from.
See a Film on the Rocks
The same natural acoustics that make Red Rocks Amphitheater the perfect place to watch your favorite musical artists perform live make it a prime spot for watching movies. While the awe-inspiring setting easily secures the venue a slot in the upper tier of movie-screening venues, the organizers of Film on the Rocks have made the series even more attractive by securing comedians and bands to open each screening. Still on the agenda for this summer are Fight Club on June 10, The Fast and the Furious on July 1, and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on July 8. A different film will be screened every Tuesday morning through September 2.
Denver County Fair
In spite of its status as one of the youngest county fairs in the country, the Denver County Fair has made quite a splash in the metropolitan area. The event supports hundreds of local businesses and entrepreneurs, and it offers entertainment for visitors of all ages. Traditional carnival games, exciting theme park rides, and delicious food are available in abundance, with no shortage of interactive contests and special performances. To experience this festive event, head out to the National Western Complex on August 1, 2, or 3.
Summer in and around downtown Denver is such a happening time it’s hard to choose what you want to do on any given weekend. However you end up spending your time this summer, we hope that you are able to Live Life + Love Life in and around your Denver luxury apartment!
