With Independence Day coming up this weekend, now is the perfect time to weigh your options and decide how you will celebrate the 238th anniversary of the birth of this great nation. If you want to keep this Fourth of July low-key, use your apartment’s swimming pool and grill for a traditional celebration with your friends and family. Depending on where you live, you might even be able to catch a local fireworks show from your balcony or rooftop.
If you’re itching to get out of the apartment, you can Live Life + Love Life this Independence Day in one of the following ways…
Attend a Parade
Attending a Fourth of July parade can help you get in a festive mindset and feel a sense of camaraderie with your fellow Americans. With many parades honoring service people and including floats that showcase scenes from significant events throughout U.S. history, attending one is a great way to be reminded of what it means to be American.
Barbecue with Friends
Barbecue fare is so strongly associated with the Fourth of July, and summertime in general, that a celebration might not even feel complete for some until a hamburger, hot dog, chicken wing, pulled pork sandwich, or veggie burger has found its way into their stomachs. In fact, an estimated 150 million hot dogs are consumed on Independence Day each year.
Watch a Fireworks Show
If anything is more essential to an Independence Day celebration than barbecue-style food, it’s the sight and sound of fireworks. The American Pyrotechnics Association estimates that more than 14,000 organized fireworks displays will be held in the United States this year! Finding a good fireworks show in close proximity to your apartment should be easy.
Attend a Music Festival
If you enjoy live music, there may not be a better way for you to celebrate than by rocking out to one of your favorite musician’s jams. Most large cities have at least one major Fourth of July festival, with two of the most highly-anticipated in the country being Houston’s Freedom Over Texas and Red Rocks’ Under the Sun Tour outside of Denver. This year, Grammy award-winning country star Jennifer Nettles will serenade fans with a mix of her own music and renditions of well-known patriotic tunes at Freedom Over Texas in Eleanor Tinsley Park. Over at Red Rocks, people will celebrate with Blues Travelers, Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, and Uncle Kracker.
Far from comprehensive, this list only scratches the surface of how you can celebrate Independence Day. Furthermore, these events are not mutually exclusive.
