Fun Things to Do Before Summer Ends

by
Jul 27th, 2016

Summer is speeding by, but it’s not over yet. If you’re looking to get a memorable activity or two in before the season draws to a close, here are some exciting Southern California summer activities to consider.

Attend an LA SummerFest event

For the seventh straight year, LA SummerFest is hosting a range of outdoor concerts, theater productions, and movie screenings. Get your cultural fix through a production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, an evening spent drinking fine wine while listening to classy jazz, or watching a movie under the stars. Events are held at Rivendale Park, a half hour’s drive from our apartments at AMLI Lex on Orange and AMLI Warner Center.

See a free concert in the park

Southern California is home to several free concert series. If you like blues and jazz music, check out the free Friday night concert series at the Hyatt Regency Valencia. The last show of the summer is scheduled for August 5.

Senses on Main is a special themed concert series for adults, held on the third Thursday of each month on Main Street between Market and Sixth in Santa Clarita. The remaining themes are Olympics (August 18), Electro Glo (September 15), and Zombies (October 20).

Marvel at Orange County’s redwoods

Giant redwood trees are synonymous with Northern California, but Southern California is home to a few of these arboreal treasures as well. Carbon Canyon Regional Park, a 15-minute drive from AMLI Uptown Orange, has a ten-acre grove of these beautiful trees. If you’re not going to make it up north anytime soon, spend some time hiking around Carbon Canyon and admiring the largest collection of redwoods south of Salinas.

Splash around at Hurricane Harbor

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor in Valencia is Southern California’s most popular water park, and it’s only a half hour’s drive from AMLI Lex on Orange. Favorite attractions include a lazy river, splash island, sea wave pool, and toboggan-style waterslide. The park’s final day of operation for the 2016 summer season is Sunday, October 2.

Living in Southern California, you don’t have to say goodbye to sunny days and pleasant weather just because summer ends. Still, there are a handful of fun activities you can’t indulge in long after Labor Day.
