Austin’s culinary excellence is overshadowed by the city’s music scene. But the Texas capital is home to an array of diverse and delicious cuisine. Many of Austin’s highly rated restaurants are concentrated downtown and near UT Austin just north of downtown. But there’s good grub everywhere in the city. Today, we hone in on the southwest Austin neighborhood of Oak Hill’s culinary shining stars. Here are five highly rated restaurants near the Oak Hill apartments at AMLI Covered Bridge.
Heche en Mexico

Heche en Mexico’s menu is vegetarian-friendly and virtually gluten-free. And the restaurant is just a five-minute drive from AMLI Covered Bridge.
Jack Allen’s Kitchen
Farm-to-table comfort food is this wildly popular restaurant’s trademark. Jack Allen’s serves lunch and dinner every day, offers happy hour every weekday, and does Sunday brunch as well. It even has a “chicken fried anything” section, featuring chicken fried steak, chicken, pork, and beef ribs.

Via 313 Pizza
Austin is proud to have a wealth of locally sourced talent. The city brands itself as weird and welcomes contributions from outside, especially when they’re as life-changing as the Hunt brothers’ Detroit-style pizza. Like several of Austin’s most beloved eateries, Via 313 was a trailer before it was a brick-and-mortar restaurant. Via 313’s Oak Hill location is the Hunt Brothers’ newest, opened in 2015. To differentiate from the Via 313 food truck and central Austin location, the Oak Hill outpost offers specialty salads, locally-sourced desserts, a new thinner crust option, and 12 beers on tap.
