For a city of its size, Ft. Lauderdale has a high concentration of artists and art galleries. One of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to grow acquainted with local artists and their work is to participate in the Flagler Artwalk, a free event held the last Saturday of each month in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. The Flagler Arts and Technology Village, the host and site of much Flagler Artwalk action, is essentially your playground when you live in the Ft. Lauderdale apartment rentals at AMLI Flagler Village. Here are a few activities you can enjoy at the artwalk, praised as one of the better events of its kind in South Florida.
Shop for art, clothes and jewelry
The art represented at the Flagler Artwalk is anything but limited in scope. Artists and vendors set up display walls, photography studios, pottery wheels, drawing tables, engraving equipment, and more. Some even offer lessons in various art techniques. You can shop for art for your apartment walls, peruse fashionable clothing and jewelry, or cultivate your own artistic interests through lessons and conversations with artists.
Eat well
Like the art, the food at the Flagler Artwalk changes every month. Chicken kebabs, Chinese-style tacos, pizza, and vegan hot dogs and brownies are some of the popular items frequently on offer. In addition to serving quality food, one thing the rotating vendors share is local origins and ties. When you eat their food, you’re supporting local businesses.
Drink up
If you need a caffeine jolt, the friendly baristas at BREW Urban Cafe have you covered on Artwalk Saturdays. Otherwise, there is ample craft beer, fine wine, and handcrafted cocktails for quenching your thirst as you revel in the sights and sounds. Some participating galleries also serve complementary glasses of wine.
Rock out to live music
Free live music, often performed by up-and-coming local talent, contributes to the festive air that prevails on Artwalk Saturdays at Flagler Village. Soak up the tunes and let the music inspire you as you admire the paintings, drawings and handcrafted goods on display.
Have fun with the whole family
The artwalk is a family- and pet-friendly affair. Your favorite four-legged art critic is welcome and can enjoy virtually free reign of the space, including galleries and bars. Just be sure your pets are on a leash and cleaned up after.
The Flagler Artwalk supports aspiring artists and stimulates the local economy, but it’s also a lot of fun. If you have yet to experience Artwalk Saturdays, check out the next Flagler Artwalk.
