Our favorites places to dine in & around Armor Yards
Coffee & cheese
East Pole Coffee Co.
Start your day right at East Pole Coffee Co., just steps away. Food & Wine named it the best coffee shop in Georgia and Creative Loafing crowned it best in Atlanta, and once you step inside, you'll see why. The incredibly bright, spacious interior features floor-to-ceiling bleachers and a nautical theme that makes you want to stay awhile.
Their coffee bar wraps around the actual roastery, so you can watch your beans being crafted while you sip on an Ethiopian pour over or one of their seasonal beverages. Don't skip the sweet potato biscuit, it's a local favorite. They're open Monday-Friday from 7am to 6pm and weekends from 8am to 6pm, plus they host weekly coffee cuppings that are open to the public if you want to geek out about your java.
Capella Cheese
Right across from East Pole in the same building, Capella Cheese is a cheese lover's paradise. With its soaring 30-foot ceilings and transparent cheese storage rooms, the shop offers a complete sensory experience. Raymond Hook, a former Star Provisions manager and cheese expert, curates over 250 artisanal cheeses from small-batch producers around the world.
They make fresh mozzarella daily (yes, you can watch!), and their grab-and-go sandwiches make for a perfect lunch. Open daily from 10am to 6pm, it's the kind of place where the staff actually remembers your name and your favorite cheese. Pro tip: Join their monthly wine club for six bottles at just $75. It's a steal for the quality you're getting.
Brewery & distillery scene
SweetWater Brewing Company
Atlanta's largest craft brewery is right in your backyard. SweetWater combines exceptional beer (their 420 Extra Pale Ale is legendary) with a kitchen that serves up seriously good food. Their smoked wings rival any BBQ joint in town, and don't even get me started on their chicken sandwich.
Open Monday through Sunday with varying hours (usually 11:30am to 9 or 10pm), they offer brewery tours on weekends and live music on Sundays. The "dank tank" features exclusive brews you can only get at the brewery – perfect for impressing your craft beer-loving friends.
ASW Distillery (American Spirit Works)
For the whiskey lovers, ASW Distillery is your new happy place. The distillery has earned recognition as the most awarded craft distillery since 2018 at the country's most prestigious spirits competition. Their Gold Medal-winning Fiddler Bourbons and Double Gold Medal-winning Resurgens Rye are worth writing home about.
The barrel room is stunning, and they offer tours and tastings throughout the week. Check out their comedy nights for entertainment with your bourbon, and don't miss the outdoor seating area with fire pits, perfect for those cool Atlanta evenings (when they finally come around).
BBQ & southern comfort
Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q Que-osk
When you need a quick BBQ fix, the Fox Bros. Que-osk has you covered. Located in a shipping container (how Atlanta is that?), this outpost serves up a streamlined version of Fox Bros.' famous menu weekdays from 11am to 2pm.
Get your pulled pork or brisket by the half-pound, grab some mac 'n' cheese and banana pudding and enjoy it at the outdoor picnic tables. It's the perfect lunch spot when you're working from home and need something more exciting than another sad desk salad.
Fat Matt's Rib Shack
A bit further out (just a mile away from Armour Yards), Fat Matt's has been an Atlanta institution since 1990. This hole-in-the-wall joint is all about the experience – charcoal-grilled ribs, live blues music most evenings starting at 7pm and a no-frills atmosphere that keeps you coming back.
Open until 10pm most nights (11pm on weekends), it's the kind of place where the line might stretch out the door, but it moves fast and the ribs are worth the wait. Their collard greens and mac 'n' cheese are the perfect sides to round out your meal.
International flavors
Little Rey
Chef Ford Fry brings his magic to this casual Tex-Mex spot on Piedmont Road near the Walgreens. The star here is the wood-roasted chicken al carbon – get it in tacos, by the quarter or go all out with a whole bird for the family. The space is fun and quirky, decorated with hand-painted signs and vintage memorabilia that transport you straight to Austin.
Open daily (weekends from 9am for breakfast tacos!), Little Rey also has a soft-serve ice cream machine because why not end your meal on a sweet note? It's quick-service but with the quality you'd expect from a Ford Fry restaurant.
Grana
Craving Italian? Grana brings Southern Italian "peasant cooking" to Atlanta with wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas and handmade pastas that'll make your nonna jealous. Open for dinner during the week (from 4pm) and lunch on weekends (from 11:30pm), they have a gorgeous rooftop space that's perfect for date night.
Everything is made from scratch, and the meatballs are legendary. The family-friendly dining room means you can bring the kids, but the rooftop bar is where you want to be for cocktails with friends.
Nakato Japanese Restaurant
Atlanta's first Japanese restaurant (since 1972!) is still going strong. Now run by the third generation of the Nakato family, the restaurant goes far beyond typical sushi spots. They offer traditional dining overlooking a Japanese garden, exciting Teppanyaki hibachi and authentic tatami rooms for a truly immersive experience.
Open for dinner from 4pm daily, Nakato is perfect for everything from date night to family celebrations. The sushi is consistently rated as some of the best in Atlanta, and the hibachi chefs put on quite a show.
American favorites
Grindhouse Killer Burgers
Sometimes you just need a really good burger, and Grindhouse delivers. These burgers stand out from the crowd. The beef is ground fresh daily and cooked to a perfect medium. Build your own masterpiece or try the Apache burger with pepper jack and roasted green chili.
Open 11:30am to 10pm (closed Tuesdays), the outdoor seating is great for groups and the thick milkshakes are worth the calorie splurge. Kid-friendly and casual, it's become a neighborhood staple for good reason.
Treehouse Restaurant and Pub
Hidden away just a short distance from Armor Yards (but well worth the mention here!), the Treehouse has been a Peachtree Hills secret since 1986. The covered outdoor patio really does make you feel like you're dining in a treehouse, surrounded by beautiful old trees.
They serve lunch and dinner Wednesday-Friday, brunch on weekends and dinner only on Monday-Tuesday. Don't miss their lobster special on Mondays and Tuesdays, and the weekend brunch is a local favorite. With heaters on the patio and a fireplace inside, it's a year-round destination.
Gino's NY Pizza Bar
Gino's NY Pizza Bar is known as the go-to spot for authentic New York-style pizza with incredibly late hours (open until 4am most nights, 6am on weekends!), with a menu featuring their signature pizza display case and popular items like buffalo chicken pizza and garlic knots!
Entertainment meets dining
The Painted Pickle
More than just dinner, The Painted Pickle offers a complete experience. Atlanta's first high-end pickleball "compeatery" (yes, that's compete + eatery) spans 32,500 square feet and houses eight indoor pickleball courts, plus one outdoor court.
But here's the thing, the food is actually really good. They serve sushi, charcuterie boards, salads and sandwiches. Open Friday and Saturday from 9am to midnight, it's 21+ after 8pm. Whether you're a pickleball pro or just want to try something new while enjoying great food and drinks, this place delivers on all fronts.
Copper Cove Restaurant & Lounge
The Copper Cove Restaurant & Lounge is a dinner-to-nightlife destination with an eclectic menu, great atmosphere and a transformation into a party spot on weekends. Expect live music, karaoke nights, ladies nights and much, much more!
Stock your bar at home
Ansley Wine Merchants
Round out your Armour Yards food and drink tour with a stop at Ansley Wine Merchants. With over 1,000 wines, 600 spirits and 200 beers, the shop has been an Atlanta institution since 1986 and offers far more than typical wine stores.
The staff is incredibly knowledgeable without being pretentious, and they tape their personal reviews right on the bottles to help guide your selection. Open daily (10am-9pm weekdays, until 10pm on weekends), they also have a monthly wine club that gets you six bottles for just $75.
