Those two months of the year when Seattle enjoys what is arguably the best weather in the country are definitively behind us.
If you’re looking for a place to eat, read, or work that’s so charming and cozy you’ll forget all about the fact that there’s weather outside you’d like to ignore, here are a few places in South Lake Union you should check out.
Caffe Torino
Operating on a mission to bring an authentic taste of Turin, Italy to Seattle, Caffe Torino is a must for espresso lovers and anyone with a weakness for Italian pastries. Just around the corner from AMLI South Lake Union, Caffe Torino is a place you can sip on an americano or cappuccino while reading the news or working on your latest project. If your stomach is growling, the availability of appetizers, sandwiches, and cookies means it’s also a place you can have a three-course meal. This cozy South Lake Union cafe also serves up authentic Torino coffee and chocolate drinks you can’t find at most coffee shops. They also hosts events, such as an art and wine evening and opportunities to learn Italian.
Cask and Trotter
Warm, friendly and welcoming, Cask and Trotter is a great place to catch up with friends over warm, smoky barbecue. Sliders, ribs, mac and cheese, and deviled eggs are some of the menu items you can indulge in at this cozy restaurant, a 10-minute walk from the Seattle apartment rentals at AMLI 535 and AMLI South Lake Union.
Row House Cafe
Another South Lake Union establishment that specializes in southern homestyle comfort food, Row House Cafe is a warm and inviting place to catch up with friends. This Republican Street hangout is so close to AMLI 535 and AMLI South Lake Union, you might not even have to open that umbrella or throw on your rain jacket. If you want to warm your bones with an adult beverage, the selection of craft cocktails, local beer, and wine should be able to help you out.
Nollie’s Cafe
Two blocks from AMLI South Lake Union and AMLI 535, Nollie’s is one of those relaxed neighborhood cafes where you can make yourself feel at home. Coffee drinks, soups, and freshly baked goods are the specialties, many of which are infused with pumpkin spice this time of year.
PlayDate SEA
If you’re looking for a family-friendly place to spend a winter day, PlayDate SEA has you covered. The place has a play area designated for infants and toddlers, as well as one for kids of all ages. Order something from the cafe, and read or work while keeping an eye on the kids. PlayDate SEA also has a huge selection of food. The venue’s size precludes PlayDate SEA from achieving ultimate cozy status, but the fact that you and your kids can spend several hours here without any of you getting bored speaks volumes. It can also keep you out of the rain for a solid chunk of time.
Chandler’s Crabhouse
If upscale dining in front of a fireplace sounds like your ideal cozy night out, then Chandler’s Crabhouse offers an experience you shouldn’t miss out on. Dine on delightful crab or fresh fish in an intimate and warm setting. Premium lake views add to the experience and can make it feel much cozier inside when gray clouds hang over the lake.
With all of Seattle’s cozy cafes, you should have no trouble staying dry and warm throughout the fall and winter. If you don’t already have a favorite winter haunt or two, explore the offerings near your South Lake Union apartment until you find a place you want to visit again and again and again.
