Three Ways to Enjoy Woodland Hills This Winter

by
Dec 10th, 2014

With December daytime highs averaging 70 degrees, the Los Angeles neighborhood of Woodland Hills is not the wintriest of places. But this doesn’t mean you have to be completely deprived of traditional winter fun.

If you live in AMLI Warner Center or another Woodland Hills  apartment and want to make the most of what the season has to offer, here are a few goings on you won’t want to miss.

Woodland Hills Ice

So maybe you don’t get a white holiday season, but you can still have your own winter miracle on ice in Woodland Hills. Currently in its sixth season, Woodland Hills Ice makes it possible for Southern California residents to get into the spirit of the season by open-air ice skating. Open daily until January 19, 2015, the 7,000 square-foot rink at the Westfield Promenade is expected to draw thousands of skaters from throughout the area. Will you be one of them? The rink is only a few blocks away from AMLI Warner Center, and offers special birthday party packages that include skate rental, instruction, food, goody bags, and outdoor seating.

Candy Cane Lane

Did you grow up with a holiday tradition of strolling along neighborhood streets with your family, admiring the lights and decorative displays? Carry on that tradition or bring it back to life with a visit to Woodland Hills’ very own Candy Cane Lane. Many years ago, a group of homeowners collectively decided to transform their part of the neighborhood into a winter wonderland every holiday season. Today, it still ranks as one of the coolest holiday light displays in Los Angeles.

This beloved winter spectacle can be found just east of the Pierce College campus, where Oxnard Street meets Lubao Ave. Visitors can choose to walk or drive the eight-square block participating area. Enough changes are made year-to-year to make an annual visit worthwhile, but particularly enchanting displays are used yearly for the enjoyment of return visitors and their guests. Hot chocolate and holiday snacks are sold throughout the neighborhood to enhance the experience, which can be had every night between now and the end of the year. Residents request that visitors drive by no later than 10 PM on weekdays and 11 PM on weekends.

Winter Sports and Fitness Classes

Get a head start on your New Years resolution and sign up for a winter fitness class. LA Fitness, Cardio Barre, Total Woman Gym & Spa, Woodland Hills Athletic Club, and Equinox offer an array of classes. Students and faculty of Pierce College can enroll in classes at the gym there as well. Test out spin, yoga, zumba, and boxing, and sign up for the class that interests you the most. Supplement your training by working out in your apartment fitness center.

Woodland Hills Recreation and Parks also offers shokotan karate and tennis classes for adults, as well as guitar and piano lessons. Children can participate in softball, soccer, and tennis leagues, or sign up for lessons in the creative arts. Classes and games take place at the Woodland Hills Recreation Center and Shoup Park, just a five-minute drive from AMLI Warner Center. Winter Camp Sharwood, for children ages five through 12, also takes place at the Woodland Hills Recreation Center. Starting on December 22, 2014 and ending January 9, 2015, the camp is a great way to keep your kids active during their winter break.

There’s plenty else to do in and around Woodland Hills to keep you busy and in shape this winter. However you choose to celebrate the holidays and spend your spare time this winter, we wish you a fun and memorable season.
