Flat walking trails around Miami & Fort Lauderdale
Shark Valley Tram Trail
Distance: 14.7 miles
Trail type: Loop
Neighborhood: Everglades National Park

Whether your long-distance run takes you the length of the loop or your walk has you turning back early, you’re sure to enjoy the scenic views along this old tram trail through the Everglades. Keep an eye out for wildflowers, wetland birds, small mammals and alligators as you traverse the sparsely-shaded path to an observation tower and back.
Bobcat Boardwalk Trail
Distance: 0.4 miles
Trail type: Loop
Neighborhood: Everglades National Park

This short and sweet boardwalk trail by the Shark Valley Visitor Center in the Everglades National Park is a great spot to do a couple of laps while taking in the flora and fauna of this delicate ecosystem.
The boardwalk cuts straight through dense reeds, grasses, forests and marshes, giving you an up-close view of South Florida’s natural ecosystems without ever getting your feet wet.
FIU Biscayne Bay Arch Creek East
Distance: 3.1 miles
Trail type: Loop
Neighborhood: North Miami
Dog-friendly: Yes, leashed
This gentle, paved path around Florida International University offers plenty in terms of scenery. Waterfront views, palm-shaded lawns, forest-lined trails and bridges over rivers are all part of the journey here, and dogs on leash are welcome to join in on the fun.
Snake Creek Trail
Distance: 3-10.6 miles
Trail type: Loop, out & back
Neighborhood: North Miami Beach
Dog-friendly: Yes, leashed
This long stretch of paved path alongside Snake Creek Canal is a great spot for flat, long-distance walks or runs.
Although the trail extends almost 5 miles from the trailhead to the Hard Rock Stadium before turning and heading back to Snake Creek Park, there is an option to go out just 1.5 miles and loop back to the start along the opposite side of the canal shore. Do a couple of laps, do the entire trail — do as much of it as you want! If you’re looking for distance along with convenience and accessibility, then this is the trail to choose.
Don Soffer Exercise Trail
Distance: 2.8 miles
Trail type: Loop
Neighborhood: Aventura
Dog-friendly: Yes, leashed
This loop around Turnberry Isle Resort Golf Course is scenic, shady and perfect for evening walks. Though the trail mainly follows a road, it passes by the golf course, through residential areas and along enough green spaces that you won’t get bored with the scenery. Water fountains are scattered along the trail, too, as are trash cans, benches and dog poop bags.
Speaking of dogs, they are certainly welcome on the trail but they must be leashed!
Bill Baggs Lighthouse Loop
Distance: 3 miles
Trail type: Loop
Neighborhood: Key Biscayne
Dog-friendly: Yes, leashed
Located within the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park on the southern tip of Key Biscayne, this gentle loop offers a calm and scenic respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Trails and pathways crisscross the entirety of the park and pass through mangrove wetlands, along beaches, through lawns and over boardwalks, so there’s plenty more to see in addition to what this loop offers. Keep an eye out for wildlife here, too — you might catch a glimpse of some pelicans, water monitors and various butterflies that call this scenic spot home.
Miami Beach Art Deco District
Distance: 3.8 miles
Trail type: Out & back
Neighborhood: Miami Beach
Dog-friendly: Yes, leashed
If you’re interested in Art Deco architecture — which, by the way, Miami Beach is world-famous for Art Deco! — then this walk along the vibrant streets is just the place to go.
This trail is more of a brief walk along Miami Beach and several of the waterfront parks. Use it as a guide, but feel free to take the twists and turns that call your name. Check out nearby Collins Park and the famous Bass museum of Art; walk up lively Lincoln Road and past all the stores and outdoor cafes; or wind through beachside Lummus Park and past Muscle Beach, Barbell Beach, the Scope art exhibits and the Art Deco Welcome Center.
Or, just follow all 10 miles of the Miami Beach Boardwalk as far up and down the beach as you want. There’s always plenty to see!
Beach Boardwalk Promenade

Neighborhood: Fort Lauderdale Beach
Dog-friendly: Yes, leashed
Sunsets, palm trees, beach views — it doesn’t get better than this!
Follow all 3 miles of this stunning beachside boardwalk from the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale up to the Pelican Grand Beach Resort before turning back, taking in all the sun, sand and ocean breeze all the while. You’ll get the scenery of Miami Beach, but without as many crowds!
