Atlanta provides countless ways to give back to those in need, ranging from helping the homeless to protecting Atlanta-area forests. By volunteering, you will be gaining insight, making new friends and helping others. Check out some of Atlanta’s most popular organizations below, and get hands-on […]

“I continue to volunteer for both of us.” – Sue Bersh

One of the things that makes me most proud of working for AMLI Residential the past 30 years is our FAMLI Volunteer program. The program connects AMLI residents and employees with local non-profit organizations. While some of these charities are chosen because of a connection to the community where our apartments are located, others are selected because of personal significance to AMLI team members. This is the case with LUNGevity, the nation’s largest lung cancer focused non-profit.

A Look at AMLI FAMLI's Chicago Community Involvement

Life in an AMLI Residential apartment comes with a lot of perks. One of these, for individuals who are passionate about serving their communities, is the AMLI FAMLI volunteer program. The program affords residents who are committed to specific causes, as well as those who are interested in volunteering in general, with excellent opportunities to give back to their communities in meaningful ways. Opportunities for involvement vary by region. To get a feel for the range and scope of volunteer opportunities residents have, here’s a look at three longstanding Chicago AMLI FAMLI volunteer partnerships.

North Texas Day of Giving

By Jason Ernst

It is a simple charity benefit event of grand design. Participating is as easy as visiting a website, identifying charities you want to give, and making a donation from your Dallas office or AMLI apartment home. North Texas Giving Day is a day for those of us who live comfortably to help those who are less fortunate. And it is coming up on September 18.

Dec My Room

Spending time in the hospital can be hard on anyone; but for sick and injured children who have hardly ever spent a night away from home or their families, it can be especially difficult. It’s the knowledge of this and desire to make long-term hospital stays more comfortable for children on which Dec My Room was founded at Texas Children’s Hospital in South Central Houston in 2007. In the years since, the organization has expanded to other hospitals in Houston, as well as to others in Texas and around the country. A non-profit that provides volunteers with the opportunity to make […]

Five years ago I held my best friend’s hand and watched her take her last breath. For the two-and-a-half years leading up to that moment, I watched Elyse fight a truly impossible battle against lung cancer. What I saw, shared, and felt shook me to my core. When Elyse’s fight ended at age 45, mine had just begun. I recently read a blog that quoted Christopher Robin saying goodbye to his beloved friend, Winnie the Pooh: “If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together… there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and […]

Jill & Sue ~ lung cancer advocates & the best of friends

On the heels of a very pink October, most people don’t know that November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Lung cancer is the deadliest cancer, taking more lives than breast, prostate, colorectal and pancreatic cancers combined. It kills about twice as many women as breast cancer, and almost three times as many men as prostate cancer. People think it’s a smoker’s disease, but about 60% of all new lung cancer diagnoses are among people who have never smoked or are former smokers, many of whom quit several decades ago.

AMLI had their first AMLI Gives Back Day on May 9th! The DFW AMLI fAMLI volunteered at Jonathan’s Place, a local area organization that specializes in providing a safe, loving home and specialized services for children who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected.  Jonathon’s Place is always needing cleaning supplies, new children’s clothes (all sizes), new towels (all sizes), hygiene items, bicycles (all sizes), and toys.   If you are interested in making a donation, please drop off your items or gift cards to the leasing office.   Please visit http://www.jpkids.org/ for more information about the organization.
