Depending on the climate you live in, you may consider winter to be bleak, dreary, and downright cold. But by embracing the excuse the season gives us to cozy up at (and sometimes away from) home, you can beat the winter blues and stay comfortable all season long.
Here are some things you can do to make your luxury apartment a cozier place for the winter.
Bring Nature Indoors
If your luxury apartment is located in a city like Chicago, which is notorious for its cold, snowy winters, you probably don’t spend much time in the great outdoors. To compensate for this lack of contact with nature, introduce pine cones, birch logs, poinsettia, and other forms of natural decor in your apartment. If you’re allergic to or just don’t like winter foliage in your home, add some faux flowers and logs. They can have the same effect.
Appeal to Your Senses
Think about your greatest creature comforts. Many of these may invoke tactile memories, but there are bound to be a few smells that make you feel right at home. When you decorate for winter, don’t discount the value of scented items. Cinnamon spice potpourri and scented candles can provide your home with the finishing touches that allow you to enjoy what the winter season offers.
Bust Out Blankets and Throw Pillows
I have to agree with Alexa Hotz, managing editor of Remodelista, when she says, “A blanket, a good book, and a cup of tea are the equation for happiness.” If you have a box of winter accessories, open it up and distribute warmth throughout your apartment. Strategically arrange your blankets and throw pillows so some source of additional warmth is never more than an arm’s reach.
Focus on Warm Colors
Reds, oranges, and yellows are associated with fire and the sun. If you don’t have a fireplace in your apartment, you can make your place feel cozy by sticking to warm-colored seasonal decor. Swap out your bedding with a a set of burnt-orange linens, say “yes” to that yellow area rug that has been calling your name, and display candles that run the warm color spectrum. Whenever possible, choose warm colors while making decorative purchases or getting materials for DIY projects.
As energy-draining as winter can be, cool, dark weather gives us the perfect opportunity to rest up and revitalize. While summer may be your favorite season, winter is special and enjoyable in its own right. Live Life + Love Life this winter in your luxury apartment.
