Decorating on a Budget: Tips for a Winning New Year's Bash

by
Dec 18th, 2015

So you’re throwing a New Year’s Eve party in your apartment? Deciding to throw a party is a good start. Decorating your apartment for an iconic blowout New Year’s bash is something else entirely, and can prove difficult.

To take some of the stress out of the planning process and help you decorate for the festivities on the cheap, here are some helpful hints for throwing a classy New Year’s Eve party with ease.

Pick a Central Color

Selecting a central color or two-color scheme to focus on should help you flesh out your theme and make choosing decorations cheaper and easier. Deep red, Tiffany blue, gold, and silver are all viable options.

Don’t Hold Back on the Candles

When it comes to decorating for a New Year’s Eve party, there is hardly a thing as too many candles. If you have container candles that work with the central color you selected, arrange them around your apartment. Complement these with tea lights, votives, and pillar candles.

Use Holiday Ornaments

If you decked the halls of your apartment for the holiday season, you should be able to reuse some of the decorations already strung. While packing up your holiday decor, keep up ornaments, wrapped boxes, and wall decorations that seem New Year’s appropriate. Examples include metallic and glittery ornaments; evergreen branch arrangements and berries; and pretty much anything silver, gold, or white. If you didn’t do much in the way of decorating for the holidays, an alternative way to get cheap decorations is to hit up day-after sales for a selection of holiday decor that will work seamlessly for a New Year’s Eve party.

Craft Paper Snowflakes

Easy to make, elegant, and often more attractive than the real deal, paper snowflakes are a DIY decor project almost anyone can pull off. All you really need is paper, a pencil, and a pair of scissors. If you want to get fancy, some glitter can add a sparkling touch. You can hang individual snowflakes or strings of them, design a table runner, or craft a chandelier.

Get Creative with Gift Wrap, Ribbons, Bows, and More

Glittery gift wrap that’s not too holiday-specific can be used to line drink trays and cookie platters. Lengths of ribbon can add a festive touch to serving tables. Bows can be added to party favors. And confetti adds a classic New Year’s Eve touch. Your apartment ceiling is the limit when it comes to getting creative with glittery, sparkly wrapping paper and accessories you have hanging around.

Follow these tips, and you’ll be well on your way to throwing a New Year’s Eve party to remember. However you choose to decorate your apartment for your upcoming New Year’s Eve party, AMLI Residential wishes you a blowout end to 2015 and the happiest start to the new year.
