AMLI Earns Top Sustainability Awards in Austin

A luxurious lifestyle can also be a sustainable one. AMLI Residential’s dedication to green building across the country proves it, and now that commitment is evident in Austin.

AMLI’s two newest developments have earned LEED status. The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance. This pair of AMLI communities has also managed to pick up some prestigious local sustainability recognitions along the way, each racking up a nod from the local Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB), the first green building program of its kind in the U.S.

AMLI at Mueller, a 279-unit mixed-use community in the 700-acre Mueller Redevelopment, was awarded a 1-star AEGB rating and LEED Platinum, the highest LEED rating possible, while AMLI Covered Bridge, a 360-unit multifamily community in Southwest Austin, garnered a 2-star AEGB rating and LEED Gold, the second-highest LEED recognition available.

These two new designations bring AMLI’s sustainability scoreboard to four AEGB-rated buildings in Austin and 22 LEED-certified apartment communities across the nation.

While this most recent spate of certifications is new, the journey to attain these accreditations began before the buildings’ foundations were even laid. AMLI has an on-going mission to reduce its impact on the environment that extends to its new developments as well as existing properties in its portfolio.

Cleaner, more efficient building materials were used in the construction of AMLI Covered Bridge and AMLI at Mueller. AMLI at Mueller also sourced a portion of its construction materials from locations nearby, reducing transport emissions and promoting local business in the process. Over 75 percent of waste materials generated during construction of both developments were recycled instead of being dumped in landfills.

Energy and resource efficiency is part of the developments by design. Apartments at AMLI at Mueller and AMLI Covered Bridge are outfitted to use 12 percent less energy than a conventional apartment (and much, much less than a single-family home). Each unit uses 16-25 percent less water and comes equipped with state-of-the-art air ventilation and filtration systems to ensure fresh air is only one breath away for residents and guests. ENERGY STAR® appliances keep utility bills down and floorplans are designed with large windows to let sunlight in, and promote feelings of well-being year-round.

Beyond the buildings themselves, AMLI seeks to provide its residents with the resources to lead healthy, sustainable lives. Both communities have on-site resort-style pools, ample bicycle storage, electric car charging stations in covered parking garages, and 24-hour fitness centers supplied with a holistic fleet of machines essential for any well-rounded workout routine.

Living up to the rigorous standards set out by LEED and AEGB is inherent in AMLI’s pledge to provide an enriching environment for its residents and neighbors. We look forward to earning more sustainability certifications in the coming months and years, and hope you’ll join us on the road to a brighter, greener future.
