How to Maximize Your Space in Every Room

by
Jan 26th, 2017

When you live in an apartment, space is often scarce. You have to make the most of every square inch. This forces you to look around and find new ways to maximize space. When you start to get creative about it, you’ll find that you actually have a lot more space than you thought. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your apartment space.

Install curtains or room dividers

Putting up curtains or room dividers helps define space when multiple people share an apartment. You can put curtains around your bed or work area to give yourself privacy. Large bookcases and other tall pieces of furniture can also serve as room dividers.

Use creative storage solutions

You can’t afford to waste any space in your apartment with clutter. Installing floor-to-ceiling bookshelves gives you lots of places to store things. Get furniture that doubles as storage space. Storage benches, hutches, captain’s beds, and console cabinets are all good for this purpose.

Find efficient solutions for your power cords

In many apartments, there are limited outlets for all of your appliances and devices. You may find yourself constantly plugging and unplug lamps, computers, kitchen appliances and other electronics. One way to solve this problem is to buy piggyback plugs, such as those from Americord, that conserve space and offer neater setups for your electronic needs. Longer cables are useful for letting you keep your devices in more convenient places. Higher quality cords are also safer and reduce the risk of fire.

Replace traditional doors with sliding doors

Sliding doors on closets, bathrooms and other rooms saves space. Traditional swinging doors are fine for large rooms. However, in smaller spaces, they add to a feeling of confinement. Sliding doors are also stylish and work especially well with modern decor.

Organize your closets

If you’re like most people, you don’t get the most out of your closet space. Adding a closet organizer immediately gives you additional space for clothes and other items. Placing hooks on closet walls and doors is another way to gain extra space. One of the best ways to free up closet space is to simply discard unused items.

There are many ways to create more space in your apartment. Remember to think vertically when trying to come up with extra space, as in adding high shelves. Also make sure you declutter and get rid of anything you don’t need. Don’t simply lament your lack of space. Consider the possibilities and make sure you are maximizing the space you do have.
