Recently named one of the most exciting food cities in the country by Zagat, Atlanta is a culinary force to be reckoned with. This is due in part to the success of revered local institutions like The Colonnade, Murphy’s, and Nino’s. But much of the buzz around Atlanta’s food scene is fueled by recently opened standouts. Here’s a look at seven laudable new restaurants in Atlanta.
Tuk Tuk Thai Food Loft owner DeeDee Niyomkul launched a soft opening for his new Buckhead restaurant on January 18. Early reviews confirm what food critics had anticipated: Chai Yo’s contemporary cuisine is to Thai for. And talented mixologist Andrew Faulkner’s Thai-inspired cocktail menu features drinks that pair well with all dishes. Chai Yo is located across Peachtree Road from The Shops Buckhead, 2 miles from AMLI 3464 and AMLI Lindbergh.

For a broader selection of Southeast and East Asian cuisine, try Co’s Atlanta outpost in Poncey-Highland. The menu’s diverse offerings include bahn mi, pho, kimchi beef dumplings, Korean tacos, ramen, and Malaysian coconut curry soup. Co started in Charleston and now has six regional locations to its name. Co Atlanta, a mile from AMLI Ponce Park, opened for business last summer.

Naples-born Giulio Adriani first encountered the art of making Neapolitan pizza as a young boy in his grandmother’s kitchen. He’s gone on to win four World Pizza Championships and help set the Guinness World Record for largest pizza. And now, after reading about The Local Pizzaiolo for a year, Atlantans can finally enjoy Adriani’s pizza. The pizzeria opened its West Midtown joint in January. Locations in Sandy Springs and Toco Hill are also scheduled to open this year. The Madison Yards pizzeria is slated to open in 2019. Gluten-free crust is available.

In case you haven’t noticed, that quirky midtown building we call “the Castle” reopened its doors in October. The Castle’s latest incarnation is a restaurant serving globally-inspired American fare and handcrafted cocktails. Fresh, local ingredients enhance the quality of food and drink alike at Rose + Rye, a five-minute walk from AMLI Arts Center.

This Buckhead hotspot is the latest venture from the culinary and management teams behind The Pinewood and The Mercury. Bar Americano’s dinner menu features Italian classics like chicken parmesan and steak Florentine. For dessert or coffee after your meal, drop into Bar Crema, Bar Americano’s espresso and gelato shop. If you return to the bar for drinks after dessert and hunger strikes again, you’re in luck. After the dining room closes, you can order pizza and small bites from the late-night lounge menu. Bar Americano is 2 miles from AMLI’s Buckhead apartments.

Marietta’s sensational farm-to-table restaurant Spring opened in 2016. But it’s still relatively new, and it is undeniably buzzworthy. Bon Appetit ranked Spring the seventh best new restaurant in America in 2017, citing chef Brian So’s innovative, “French technique-driven dishes” as the primary reason. Seasonal southern ingredients drive Spring’s frequently-changing menu, and So seems adept at working with all of them.

Forget new American cuisine for an evening at this diner-inspired restaurant, where classic American dishes dominate the menu. Golden Eagle’s steak tartare, duck confit and other retro eats are delicious. The restaurant also won Eater Atlanta’s Design of the Year Award in 2017. The Golden Eagle is a 2-mile drive from AMLI Parkside.
