Deep Ellum’s exceptional live music and nightlife venues have drawn visitors from across Dallas for nearly a century. The neighborhood’s culinary scene, now its second biggest draw and source of revenue, has exploded only recently. If you’re looking for a nice spot for dinner or appetizers before your next night out in Deep Ellum, look no further.
1. Angry Dog
All-beef kosher dogs smothered in sinfully delicious condiments have kept Angry Dog busy for more than 25 years. The late-night eatery also serves satisfying half-pound burgers. Angry Dog is just a ten-minute drive from the Uptown Dallas apartments at AMLI Quadrangle.
Formerly known as Alligator Cafe, Bucky Moonshine’s is the place to go in Deep Ellum for crawfish, gumbo, or a po boy. Many consider Bucky Moonshine’s the best cajun and creole restaurant in the entire DFW metroplex.
3. Cane Rosso
Consistently ranked as one of the better Italian restaurants in the DFW area, Cane Rosso is another of the few longstanding successful eateries in Deep Ellum. Cane Rosso is best known for its rustic, wood-fired pizza, but serves an array of homemade pasta dishes and sandwiches as well.
Frank is Deep Ellum’s most exclusive fine dining destination. Prices are on the higher end, but the intensely high quality of the dining experience makes eating at Frank’s feel like a value. If you have the chance to eat at Frank, you take it. Reservations are invite-only, but you can sign up for the wait list online to have your name entered into the random invitation lottery.
This Deep Ellum hot spot boasts a rooftop bar with exceptional views of Dallas’ magnificent skyline. In addition to the views, regular patrons are fond of the restaurant’s reasonable drink prices and standard pub grub.
Monkey King Noodle may be one of the few Chinese food options in Deep Ellum, but it is one mighty fine ambassador for the cuisine. This street-style vendor serves affordable dishes out of a small, chic storefront with an upstairs eating area. The views up top may not compare to those at The Green Room, but it does nicely overlook the neighborhood.
Twisted Root is known for its inventive burger combinations and laid-back atmosphere. The Deep Ellum burger joint also serves fried pickles, spirit-infused milkshakes, and other sinful delicacies.

Dear @uncleubers, thank you for today's amazing treat meal. Yes, I'll occasionally have a treat meal, not treat DAY. So long as you're keeping up with your healthy eating plan and staying active, "Enjoy yo' self!" (Dave Chappelle Rick James voice) Plus, these meals are great to inspire new recipes. Tag someone you want to have a #YOLO meal with! Boom. Bum.
This list would not be complete without a sandwich shop. Uncle Uber’s serves classic and unique sandwiches that critics and customers rank among the best in the metroplex. If you’re not in a hurry and there’s a table available on your first visit, dine in to experience Uncle Uber’s famously funky vibes.
The last highlight on our list goes to the BrainDead Brewing and a new concept the BrainDead team is working on. The brewery’s patio is a sought-after spot to have a bite over a pint of your favorite draught. In the works, however, is something that many in Dallas will like even better. Bowls & Tacos, set to take over the defunct gas station a short walk away at Commerce and Exposition, will have the same easy, outdoor vibes as the brewery’s patio. The menu is built around fish tacos and poke bowls, a Hawaiian raw fish salad that is winning over droves of food-savvy diners across the country.
