The Atlanta Botanical Garden is 30 acres of lush natural area located within Piedmont Park in Midtown Atlanta. Despite being nestled in the heart of the city’s hustle and bustle, the gardens are a prime place to wind down after long work week. Only a 3-mile drive from the Lindberg apartments at AMLI Piedmont Heights, the Atlanta Botanical Garden has plenty of things to do and to see all year round. Attend concerts in the park, join a nature class, walk the nature preserves or discover unique plant life. Here’s what awaits at this urban oasis in Atlanta.

Gardens

Wander around the over 15 different plant collections and view the beauty in both indoor and outdoor settings. The indoor collection features a high elevation house, an orchid display, tropical rotunda and desert house. Outside, you can see the rose garden, hydrangea area, a rare conifer garden, palms, water plants, Japanese garden and seasonal blooms.

Art

Around every corner, you’ll find sculptures, water fountains and other art pieces within the gardens. There are both permanent pieces as well as special art exhibits that are highlighted throughout the year.

Events

The gardens host a variety of special events for all age groups. During the summer, enjoy cocktails in the garden every Thursday where you can meet new friends in a beautiful space. There are special exhibits, garden chef demos, special talks by experts, concerts in the garden, plant sales and so much more. Check the garden’s events calendar often, as there is something new going every month.

Animals

The indoor tropical conservatory is home to many animals. See frogs, geckos, finches, quail, wood turtles and more living in a recreated ecosystem just like their natural habitat. Watch and listen as these animals interact, eat, sleep and cohabitate in the tropical conservatory where you’ll also find a waterfall, mossy ponds and a variety of plant life.

Education

There are a variety of classes about plants, flowers, ecosystems and everything in between for those craving more knowledge. There are workshops on planting a garden, beekeeping, cooking with fresh herbs, caring for orchids and new classes are always popping up. If you’re interested in the arts, there are painting workshops as well as regular tai chi in the garden.

Eats

Take a break from walking and stop to refuel at one of the garden’s food spots. Longleaf restaurant is a two-story, modern building in the middle of the gardens offering full-service dining. Enjoy beautiful views either inside or outside on the rooftop patio. The Longleaf Quick Cafe offers fresh grab-and-go style items such as sandwiches, salads and soups for those looking for a quick bite on the run. The Snack Bar is a perfect spot to stop for a beverage or sandwich outside.
