Peachy Sauces You Can Make At Home

by
Aug 19th, 2024

It’s peach season here in Georgia, and that means coming home with buckets of fresh peaches that we don’t always know what to do with.

Use peaches for grilling, baking, cooking or in cocktails — if you still have some left over, then use them in a sauce!

Processing peaches into sauces is a great way to use peaches that may be right at the end of their peak or have become too overripe to eat on their own. Most of the time they’ll need to be pureed or blended, so it doesn’t really matter what they look like. It’s a great way to reduce food waste while also stocking your pantry with some tasty spreads! If you get your peaches from farmers markets near our luxury Atlanta apartments, that’s even better! You’ll be supporting local farmers and orchards that are sure to produce great produce!

Here are some great sauces that you can make with some of Georgia’s famous peaches!

6 sauces you can make with peaches

Peach curd

Need a dessert sauce? A spread for your toast? A drizzle on your ice cream? An extra burst of tang for your meringue?

Peach curd is a versatile sauce that requires very few ingredients and very little time. Once you’ve made it, you can store it in the fridge and use it on all sorts of sweet and savory dishes!

Spread it in-between cake layers with a whipped cream frosting, or over some toast alongside your morning coffee. It’s also great over ice cream, in cocktails, in milkshakes, over yogurt and in smoothies. Go crazy with it!

It’s also a good way to use up lots of fresh peaches that you’ve picked around Atlanta’s orchards

Peach chutney

Mmmmm… chutney.

Chutney is a popular condiment in the Indian Subcontinent, where it most often refers to pickled relish-like sauces and preparations. The relish has found its way to South Africa too, where it’s become a national treasure and a must-have for nearly every dish.

As a totally-objective-and-not-biased-at-all South African, to say that peach chutney is the best condiment ever is ultimately a statement of fact and not subjective at all. Right?

Okay. Let’s move on.

Made by simmering chopped peaches with onions, ginger, curry, mustard, malt vinegar and an array of warm spices, peach chutney is your ultimate condiment for grilled meats. It’s just as good on a bratwurst as it is on a pork chop, and it’ll blow your mind on some crackers and cheese as easily as it will on some pulled pork sandwiches. Honestly, it’s the best. Take our word for it.

Peach jam

We’ve all been there — you bought, like, a hundred fresh peaches from your favorite local orchard and now have more fruit than you know what to do with. Also, they’re all starting to go bad because you've bought the organic variety.

Turn your peach problem into jams, jellies or preserves that you can keep for yourself or give as gifts. The soft pulp and easy-to-peel skins make peaches one of the easier fruits to process, and making it is as easy or as complicated as you want it to be.

Add extra flavors like whiskey, jalapeno, habanero, vanilla or cinnamon to give your peach preserves an extra oomph of flavor. Or, combine the peaches with other fruits like raspberries, strawberries or cherries. If you’re wondering where to start, give this peach ginger jam recipe, this easy peach jam recipe or this peach jelly recipe a try!

And share that it’s just a really nice way to play with flavors. I like Peach-Saffron, Apricot-Ginger, Blueberry-Cinnamon…there’s a lot to do that you won’t see on a Bonne Maman advent calendar (although I miss mine already). Now’s a great time to start jamming (or just collecting your summer fruit!) so the full recipe, method and caveats (lol) are on the blog! https://justinesnacks.com/peach-saffron-jam/ #peachjam #jamrecipes #howtomakejam"

Peach butter

Peach butter is similar to peach jam, but it’s got a thinner texture and is a little easier to make. You still puree the fruit and cook it with spices, but since it doesn’t include pectin you end up with a more applesauce-like consistency than that of a jam or jelly.

Use peach butter in the same ways you would use applesauce — as a dessert topping, a yogurt addition, a pastry filling, a garnish on roast pork and much more!

Peach barbeque sauce

Peaches are perfect for barbeque sauces, since their natural sweetness is intensified with heat and the flavors pair well with smoked and grilled meats.

There are several ways to incorporate peaches into your next barbeque sauce. Blend ripe peaches into a puree and cook them down until the mixture is thick and strong — then add some smoked paprika, brown sugar, salt, pepper and some chili powder, along with oil, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar and some ketchup.

This makes a pretty basic BBQ sauce recipe, but you can spice it up (literally) with some extra tweaks, too. Use chunks of peaches instead of pureed peaches for more texture in your sauce. Add whiskey or bourbon for a complex flavor, or add fire-roasted habanero peppers for an extra kick of heat. Whatever you choose to add, you can’t go wrong with a peach BBQ sauce!

Peach caramel

There’s nothing that screams “fall coziness” more than some homemade peach caramel. Put that stuff in your chai latte, PSL, on some ice cream or over some bread pudding. It makes for great gifts, too, but honestly, you’ll want to keep it all for yourself!

Caramel itself is pretty easy to make. All you need is some sugar, a heavy-based saucepan and some patience — you can even make caramel directly in a condensed milk can! To make peach caramel just puree some peeled peaches with cream to make a smooth paste, then slowly incorporate it into the caramel until completely combined.

Good luck!
